Marcil - John William "Jack , age 81 Years.

He was born in Omaha to Florence Reed Marcil and Albert Marcil. After St. John’s Grade School, John attended Creighton Preparatory School where he edited the school yearbook, ran the mile on the track team, and played tackle on the football team. As a senior on the 1947 Creighton Prep Varsity Football Team, he was part of an undefeated season and was inducted into the Creighton Prep Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. John graduated from Creighton Prep in 1948, attended Creighton University for one year, and was then awarded a Navy ROTC Scholarship to attend Marquette University. John was Headmaster of Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity, inducted into Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Honor Fraternity, and elected to the Marquette Union Board. He graduated from Marquette University with a double major in naval science and accounting in 1953, and received his commission as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. After three years of active duty, and five years in the Navy Reserves, he resigned his commission having attained the rank of Lieutenant. In 1956, John started employment with the Omaha Public Power District and found his career for the next 38 ½ years. As Director of Computer Services for OPPD, the evolving computer systems John helped to introduce would modernize customer billing, property accounting, inventory control, engineering work orders, payroll and a customer information inquiry system. He was a member of the Data Processing Management Association, and President of the local chapter of the Systems and Procedures Organization. In 1970, John earned his MBA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In 1974, John was promoted to Division Manager of Finance for OPPD, and became an officer as Assistant Treasurer and Assistant Secretary. His team assembled the bond issues sold in the national market that financed the capital expenditures needed for the utility. He took pride in his work to maintain a fiscally sound electric utility for the community. John was President of the local chapter of Financial Executives Institute, and chairman of the scholarship committee for the Northwest Omaha Rotary. As a member of St. Margaret Mary Church, he volunteered for many positions over the past 43 years including on the parish Finance Council from 1995 to 2011. As a great supporter of education, John served the Alumni Boards of Creighton Preparatory School, Creighton University and Marquette University. John courageously fought in his final months against lymphoma. Preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jeanne Hansen, and grandson, Michael Belatti. John is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Doran Marcil, married for 57 years after meeting in the 1st grade. He is also survived by their children: Michaela (Dr. Richard) Belatti, Marise McCabe (Welling) Fruehauf, Michon Marcil (Timothy) Abts, Michael (Deborah) Marcil, Dr. William (Sandra) Marcil, Johnna (David) Eck, of Omaha. Grandchildren surviving are Daniel Belatti, Thomas Belatti, Jack (Maren) McCabe, Marin McCabe, Kaela McCabe, Evie Abts, John Abts, Haley Eck, and step-grandchildren Dan Poledna and Tom Poledna. Also survived by brother, Albert Marcil and sister, Mary Sheil, of Omaha, and sister, Rita O’Connell of Pensacola, FL., nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Services: April 17, 2012 Services will be held Tuesday 9:30 A.M. at the 72nd Street Chapel and processing to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church for a 10:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial.

Visitation: April 16, 2012 Visitation begins Monday at 5:00 P.M. in the 72nd Street Chapel with a Wake Service at 7:00 P.M.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Omaha, NE.

Additional Service Information: In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to St. Margaret Mary Church Endowment Fund or the John William Marcil Endowed Scholarship at Creighton Preparatory School.
