Sheila Evelyn Rosen passed away on June 17 in Encinitas, Calif., after a brief illness.

Nearly three months earlier, she had celebrated her 90th birthday with her family. It was a special moment, filled with laughter, hugs, smiles and plenty of family time -- the only ingredients that Sheila had wanted.

Sheila was born in Omaha on March 23, 1927 to Hannah and Abe Pradell. She had a younger sister, Sonya.

She graduated from Omaha Central High School in 1945, attended the University of Missouri, and among other things, helped out at her parent's neighborhood grocery store.

On Sept. 28, 1947, Sheila married Jerry Rosen and together they raised two children -- Ellan and Steve.

While she lived most of her life in Omaha, she spend the last eight-plus years at the La Costa Glen senior living community in Carlsbad, Calif. Those were among the happiest and best years of her life, living near her grand-daughter Shannon, son-in-law Andy, and great grand-child, Charlie.

Sheila prized her independent living and her "this too shall pass" attitude kept her strong. More than anything, she enjoyed being with her family, be it in Kansas City for Thanksgiving, special occasions in Sun Valley, Id., or just attending countless school and sporting activities to support her grandchildren and great grandchild. Her family meant the world to her.

Sheila was an elegant woman with a warm personality and big heart. She will be missed by a wide circle of friends and family, whom she kept in touch with regularly up until her sudden death. Birthdays, weddings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, anniversaries, or just checking in, Sheila was always writing or calling. She was a pillar of the family.

Sheila enjoyed many simple pleasures -- day trips around the San Diego area with her La Costa Glen friends, board games, and of course, In & Out burgers and fries, pizza, and Dairy Queen ice cream with her home-made brownies.

Sheila and Jerry were members of Beth El Synagogue, and were active in Omaha's Jewish community.

She was proceeded in death by husband, Jerry, daughter Ellan, sister Sonya Baker, and parents Hannah and Abe Pradell.

Survivors include son Steve and his wife Sara; four grand-children, Shannon Na and husband Andy, Geoff Rosen and wife Joanna, HIlary Rosen, and Grant Rosen; great-grandchild Charlie Na; brother-in-law Bob Baker; and nephews, Tom Rosen, Kenny Rosen, Scott Baker, Bruce Baker, and Danny Baker.

The family would like to thank the staff at La Costa Glen for their care and support, along with the medical staff at Scripps Memorial Hospital.

A graveside ceremony will be held this Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Beth El Cemetery at 84th and L streets, followed by a celebration of Sheila's life at the Rose Blumkin Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sheila's memory can be made to the Jerold I. and Sheila E. Rosen endowment fund, at the Jewish Federation of Omaha Foundation, 333 S. 132nd St., Omaha, Nebr., 68154.

Fender, Dorothy, Age 93

Fender Dorothy

Date of Birth: March 20, 1924

Date of Death: June 18, 2017

Services: Graveside Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:00AM at Utterback Cemetery, Hamburg, Iowa

Age 93 formerly of Hamburg, IA, and most recently of Omaha, passed away peacefully on June 18th at Brookestone Village. Dorothy Fender was born on March 20, 1924, to Charles and Maye (Chicken) Wimmer of Arispe, IA. She graduated from the University of Nebraska during WWII where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was offered and accepted her first job teaching high school typing and shorthand in Hamburg. Dorothy was well regarded by her students and selected as an honorary graduate at an all-school reunion years later. A fortunate stop for coffee at Stoner Drug Store had her noticing a particularly handsome soldier in uniform newly returned from Europe. Although Dorothy self-described as shy, the Captain most assuredly was not. Keith and Dorothy married November 10, 1946, and to this union two children were born: Jeanne Ann (“Jae”) Gilbert (Randy) of Omaha and Mark A. Fender of Austin, TX. They had three grandsons, Grant M. Gilbert, Omaha, Jesse I. and Jaxon I. Fender of Austin, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Keith of fifty years; sisters Lorene and Lois and treasured niece; Nancy Fender Cox. Dorothy was a 50-year member of Chapter FI, P.E.O. She enjoyed reading, traveling, bridge, her friends and most of all her cherished family. She devoted herself to their well-being and comfort and they responded with overwhelming affection and love for her. Survivors include older sister, Lola Maye Busenbarrick of Benton, LA (also born on March 20th), and younger brother, Donald Wimmer of Arispe, IA. Also included are numerous nieces and nephews. A brief, graveside service at Utterback Cemetery (aka Mount Zion—approximately four miles east of Hamburg, then one north) will be held on Friday, June 23rd at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hamburg Public Library, Hamburg, Iowa, 51640.
