Arthur was born in Kingman, Kansas, the youngest child of Edward and Margaret (Conrardy) Beat. He rode to St Peter's grade school in Willowdale, KS on his horse Brownie or in a Model-T Ford. He graduated from Kingman High School in 1941. He was active in 4-H and received the State Swine Award in 1942 but was unable to attend the National 4-H Congress in Chicago because he had enlisted to serve in the US Navy. He often said he was raised and survived the three D's - the Drought, the Dust Bowl and the Depression.
Arthur served in the US Navy for 4 years during WWII, graduated with Bachelors of Science in 1947 and Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1952 from Kansas State University. He then joined a veterinary practice with Dr C.M. Rodgers in Blandinsville, IL. On July 30, 1955 he married Rose Ann Sullivan of Springfield, IL at Blessed Sacrament Church. He and Rose Ann moved to Macomb, IL after purchasing a large and small animal veterinary practice where he worked until his retirement in 1991. He and Rose Ann served as 4-H leaders in McDonough County; Member of St Paul Catholic Church in Macomb, IL and served as first president of the Parish council; 4th Degree Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight and District Deputy of the Pierre Gibault Council #682; Member of AVMA and ISVMA serving on State Board of Trustees; President and secretary of the Macomb School District #185 School board; President of the Illinois Cooperative Extension Council; Trustee of Macomb Kiwanis Club and Trustee of the Historic Fritz Chapel, Bellevue, IA. 
 

Preceded in death by wife, Rose Ann Beat; parents, Edward and Margaret Beat; brothers, Clarence, George, Victor and Paul Beat; sisters, Marcella Lindeman, Rose Beat.

Survived by sister, Alberta Dolan of Chapel Hill, NC; children, Greg Beat of Elmhurst, IL; Tom (Barb) Beat of Newnan, GA., Patty (Bob) Reisinger of Lakewood, CO, David (Maureen) Beat of Omaha, Ne.; Mary (Travis) Richardson of McFarland, WI.; grandchildren, Kristen, Brandon, Ben, Michael, Kate and Raina; numerous nieces and nephews.
