Anne C. Foley

June 23, 1932 — January 27, 2023

Anne C. Foley of Bellevue, Nebraska passed away peacefully at age 90 on January 27th, 2023. She was surrounded by family and her close friend and nurse Kaddy Komma. She had a life of service to her family, friends, and her community.

Baby Anne, the last of six children, was born on June 23rd, 1932 to John V. Callaghan and Anna C. Robinson in Suffern New York. She graduated from Suffern High in 1950 and started her career as a Spectroscopist for Lederle Labs. An avid skier, tennis player and the family’s best athlete. She was sporty yet very refined. She had an active social life and was a lover of cooking, reading, antiques, and all things New England.

She moved to Denver to tackle the slopes in the Rockies and spent her weekends in mountains with her ski club. Continuing her career in science, she was proud that she excelled as a woman in the era before women’s rights. While moving into Denver’s Brown Palace she met a handsome paper salesman from Grand Island, Nebraska who was practicing his golf swing on the front lawn. He helped her move in and the rest was history. Jim and Anne moved to Omaha in 1960 where she became an active volunteer in the community. She was often recognized around town by her bumper sticker “Well behaved women rarely make History”.

Anne loved the people in Nebraska and judged all on the merit of their character. A proud Democrat, she prized hard work, honesty and sought a sense of fairness and justice for all. Anne was generous to all and a strong advocate for charity. She was as kind as she was tough but always had a sense of humor and loved a good spicy joke. Anne excelled at people watching and often served as the family fashion police.

She is preceded in death by her husband James P Foley, Parents John and Anna Callaghan and siblings Jack, Jim and Tom Callaghan as well as her sister Rita Lewis. She is survived by her older sister Patty Pennington, children Jamie (Amy) Foley, Chrysa Foley, Tom (Tamara) Foley, Grandchildren Liz (Craig) Wickersham, as well as Megan, Matt, Cal, Paige, Georgia Foley and a host of adoring nieces and nephews.
