Diane Young Hamsa

“One of my mother’s gifts was her ability to be happy, regardless of the

situation,” said her daughter, Kristy Dooling of Omaha. “She was a wonderful

wife, mother and friend. She was a very special lady.”

The wife of Dr. William Hamsa, Jr., Diane was the daughter of the late

Richard H. Young and Katherine Doorly Young Clark, as well as the granddaughter

of World-Herald Publisher, Henry Doorly. A graduate of the University

of Nebraska and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, she

also was an elementary school teacher and a tireless community volunteer.

Among her activities were The Henry Doorly Zoo Board, The Omaha

Hearing School Board, The Ak-Sar-Ben Women’s Ball Committee, The Junior

League of Omaha, and Fraxa Research Foundation.

She loved golf, tennis, horseback riding and especially gardening. Her

three favorite flowers were her daughters Heidi Wilke of Omaha, Kristy

Dooling of Omaha, and Megan Massey of Scottsbluff.

Survivors include her husband Dr. William Hamsa of Omaha; her daughters

Heidi, Kristy, and Megan; her sister, Gail Koch and her husband, Harry A.

Koch of Omaha; her twin sister, Daphne Fletcher and her husband, Dick of

Scottsdale Az; sons-in-law Jeff Wilke, Rick Dooling, and John Massey; eight

grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by

her sister Susan Charlton and husband, Dr. J. Kipp Charlton.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brighton Gardens and Serene

Care Hospice for their dedication and support.
