Dolores S. Johnson

Dolores Johnson age 83 of Omaha, NE died 06/02/2023 after a nine-year battle with myelodysplastic syndrome.

Dolores was the granddaughter of Polish immigrants, Rozalia (Rose) Skibinski Alenic born 1895 and Adolf Skibinski born 1881. Both immigrated legally to the USA in the early 1900's. Adolf obtained his citizenship in 1923 and Rose in 1930.

They married and settled in South Omaha and together raised 5 daughters, Eugenia, Louise, Emily, Angeline, and Josephine and one son, Stanley.

They purchased a two-story home at 3811 l street. They lived in the upstairs and converted the lower level into a small grocery store. In a back room behind the store Rose started to make her famous polish sausage. It was a family affair where all chipped in to make the sausage. The sausage was then taken to a smokehouse in the back yard and cured. As the daughters married, the sons-in-law, John Karnish, Walter Rajda, Joe Eckart, Chester Kowalewski also helped out. The sausage was a big hit, lots of orders for weddings, birthdays and other special occasions. John and Eugenia moved next door so they could be close to the grocery store. Dolores was born (1939) about this time. Dolores remembers the grocery store and helping out with various tasks. Rose continued with sausage and the store until the early seventies.

Dolores was a mercy high graduate (1958) and maintained a close friendship with a classmate Virginia Heng (Wolfe), she also had close friendships with two of her cousins (Gloria Rajada (Klinger) and Duane Kowalewski.

After graduation, Dolores went to work at Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Company where she met the love of her life Ronald (Ron) Johnson. They married in July 1963. Two sons were born (David and Michael). They traveled by auto extensively to Colorado, Wyoming, California and many other places in the United States. Instead of auto trips, they started to fly. The annual trips to Florida in February or March were something Dolores enjoyed very much. No trips were taken during the pandemic, but resumed in December 2022.

Dolores an avid fan of the TOPS (take pounds off sensible) being a member some 35 plus years. she reached her goal in six months and maintained it all the time she was in the club. Monday night meetings were always looked forward to.

Preceded in death by her parents, John and Eugenia Karnish, uncles and aunts Louise and Walter Rajada, Joe and Angeline Eckert, Chester and Josephine Kowalewski; cousins Gloria Klinger (Rajada) and Duane Kowalewski

She is survived by her devoted husband Ronald (Ron) Johnson, her two sons David and Michael Johnson.

MASS of Christian Burial Friday, June 9, 2023, 10:00am at St. Gerald Catholic Church with interment of the urn Monday, June 12, 2023, at 10:00am at St. John’s Cemetery, Bellevue, NE.

VISITATION with the family begins Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 5:00pm at the Pacific Street funeral home with a WAKE service at 7:00pm. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for later donation.
