Gloria Taber

December 8, 1942 — January 19, 2023

Gloria Taber, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 80, on Thursday, January 19, 2023. Gloria was born on December 8, 1942 to Harry and Ruth Poppino in Omaha, NE. She married Don Taber pm April 20, 1968 and had two children Dawn and Phillip.

Gloria was a joy to everyone she met. Her joy and beautiful smile were never ending and sometimes, contagious. Gloria was always there for you, whether it was to laugh or cry. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible. This never ending love also extended to her grandchildren Skylar and Wesley.

She worked at Birchcrest Elementary School as a lunch lady while Dawn and Phillp were young. Later she worked at a telemarketing firm at the time called Watts Telemarketing. She continued this career until her retirement from Convergys.

Gloria loved flowers and enjoyed spending time every year planting her flowers. She also enjoyed cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers football games. She would frequently yell at the TV about how the team should play.

She also had a passion for animal welfare and music; something she and her daughter Dawn shared. She starting singing with Voices of Omaha to perform the Messiah in 1968 and continued this tradition annually, with her daughter Dawn joining in as well at the age of 14. Together they continued this tradition until 2018. In 2021 and 2022 she was able to attend the performances and in 2022 was presented with various gifts from some choir members.

Gloria also had a deep passion for animal welfare. Not only did the Taber family have various pets when Dawn and Phillip were younger, but Gloria also did her part to stop animal suffering in any way she could, as this was near and dear to her heart. Gloria frequently called Dawn and Phillip’s pet dogs her grandpups.

Upon on moving to Saunders House Assisted living, where she lived for nine months, Gloria made many friends, both residents and staff. She formed close friendships with some residents who dubbed them “the three musketeers”.

Everyone who know Gloria knew what a loving person she was. She will be loved and missed greatly by her family and friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by husband, Don Taber; parents, Harry and Ruth Poppino; and siblings Harold, Eleanor and Elaine. She is survived by children, Dawn (John), Phillip (Cheselle); and grandchildren Skylar and Wesley.
