Jim was born on December 12, 1955 to William and Sally Hegg in Sioux City, Iowa. Growing up Jim enjoyed hanging out with friends and family, spending several summers in Omaha with his cousin Doug. After high school Jim attended Iowa State University for Landscape Architecture and later transferred to Morningside College, receiving a double major in Business and Finance. He worked for 30 years at MidAmerican Energy where he was very proud of his career accomplishments.

Jim was an avid golfer, boater, camper, and traveler. He enjoyed playing in many golf leagues, attending golf trips to great locations and golf courses. He spent decades boating on the Missouri river with family and friends. Most recently he was very passionate about camping, spending many weekends out in Fort Calhoun at his camper around the fire with friends. He always looked forward to getting away with Sherry and vacationing down in Mexico or Florida.

Jim was known for his sense of humor, he was very clever trying to get people to laugh. He had a great love for music, and he was an amazing cook. Jim’s greatest joy and passion was his family. His unconditional love for all of us will never be forgotten. He loved his kids, his grandchildren, his nieces and nephews. He was truly a patriarch to an extended family. Jim showed up when it mattered, he had your back, he was everyone’s safety net. Everyone has a Jim story, and we’d love to hear them all. He faced his mortality like he did his life, expressing his love for everyone, with humor, and willing his way into a final thanksgiving meal surrounded by family.

Jim leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Sherry; Children, Justin (Debbie), Amanda (Nick); Grandchildren, Cameron, Owen, Drew, and Emberlyn Grace; Nieces and Nephews, Stacie (Todd), Stepanie (Bill), Josh (Amanda), David, and Jimmy.

Jim was preceded in death by his Father, William Hegg; Mother, Sally Casler; Sister, Debbie Brasher, and nephews TJ and Miles.
