October 1, 1946 — August 12, 2015

Jerry Wayne Lewellen, born October 1, 1946, age 68 died August 12, 2015 after his year and a half battle with an extremely rare cancer.

Jerry was born in Pittsburg Texas and raised in Mount Pleasant Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents R. B. Lewellen and wife Jeannie Bell (Sing) Lewellen and sister Brenda Lewellen Logan.

He is survived by his wife of 43 1/2 years Sally K. (Lebsack) Lewellen, son Jerry Wesley Lewellen, fiancé Angie Cummings and his children Lillian Payton, Carley Nicole and Jerry Wade; daughter Sharla (Lewellen) McKinney, her husband Phillip and their children Coby Stewart and MacKenzie "Kizzie" Elizabeth; his brother Randy Lewellen and wife Linda; nieces Kari Logan and Kasi Logan Dalby and family, his father and mother in-law Victor C. and Dorothy Zane Lebsack and many brother-in-laws, their wives and families, and a multitude of cousins. Jerry's in-laws consider him one of their children.

After graduating from high school, Jerry attended Kilgore Jr. College then joined the Navy.

Upon leaving the Navy he worked in Dallas until returning to Mount Pleasant where he met and married Sally Lebsack in 1972. Right after their marriage he went to work for the Cotton Belt Railroad. For the next 43 plus years they followed his job with the many railroads he was associated with; Cotton Belt, Southern Pacific, DRGW and finally the Union Pacific. He moved from Mount Pleasant to Tyler, Commerce, Houston, Dalhart, Denver and finally to Bellevue Nebraska. He worked as a brakeman, conductor and train dispatcher during Railroad career. Jerry took great pride in his work and tried to make sure his children were raised with the same work ethics he learned from his dad. Jerry took medical retirement due to hearing loss from 'riding the rails' and was waiting for his wife to retire so they could return home to Mount Pleasant.

Jerry enjoyed his children, grandchildren, gardening, photography and fishing. He tried to instill his love of photography in his two oldest grandchildren. They were given cameras at a young age and went hiking and on many zoo trips to practice the skills they were learning. He watched many children's shows and movies with his grandchildren. When his son-in-law went to Korea his daughter and children moved in. It was one of the best years he ever had. He has watched his granddaughters turn into beautiful young ladies, his oldest grandson grow into a young man, and his youngest into a nice little boy.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant during his childhood. He was a member of LifeSpring Church in Bellevue Nebraska at the time of his death.

A service will be held in Nebraska for his many friends there.
