John William Furey

January 25, 1957 — April 9, 2023

John William Furey, Jr. January 25, 1957-April 9, 2023.

John entered into eternal life on Easter Sunday, surrounded by the love of his family and cradled in the arms of Jesus.

Left to cherish his memory are John’s loving wife, Deborah, his children Melissa, Patrick (Julianne), Jessica (Alex), Travis (Nicole), and Emily (Henry), his 13 grandchildren, his siblings Kevin and Mary Furey, Nancy and David Peters and in-

laws Kent and Gloria Phillips, Julie and Chris Torney, Doug and Karen Phillips, nieces and nephews, and

his lifelong friends Pat and Katie Gurnett.

John was greeted in Heaven by those who preceded him, including his parents, John W. (Bill) and Eleanore Tangney Furey, his nephew Michael T. Peters, and sister-in-law Cindy Furey.

John’s smile would light up the room. He loved history, reading, collecting baseball cards, trivia, traveling

with Deb, especially to see the grandchildren, participating in theater, and all things sports. John was a

tenacious goalie, a competitive softballer, an impactful coach, and a devoted fan, especially of his

beloved Creighton BlueJays. But most of all, John loved his family – his immediate family, his extended

family including his many cousins, his church family, his SEi work family and his extensive family of

friends.

John met lifelong friends first at St. Bernard’s elementary school, then at Roncalli High School

(according to John, it should have stayed Rummel) and finally Creighton University.

John was devoted to his faith, and lived out his discipleship in many ways, including through bible study, outreach, and

involvement in so many of the church activities.
