Julie entered this world on July 6, 1971 in Miami, Florida. She grew up on Blackwater Sound in Key Largo, where her father, the Pastor of Key Largo Baptist Church, and her mother a schoolteacher, raised her to love God and follow Jesus Christ. She also loved the ocean, swimming, sailing, and being with her grandparents and extended family. Julie would later graduate from Tennessee Temple High School, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
After joining the U.S. Army, she would eventually meet the love of her life, Bill at Fort Ord, California. They married at the Air Force Academy on December 17, 1994, and began their family and life journey together. Julie’s “little man” (Jonathan) was born at College Station, Texas in 1995, and not two weeks later did the family move to Guam where they would be joined by “baby-boy”, Zachary in 1997. The family wasn’t done growing yet, as they welcomed Eleanor into the world in 1999 in Hawaii. Julie’s dedication to her children and support to Bill during his many travels and deployments was inspiring. She also focused and bonded with fellow military families, especially at Ft Bragg, North Carolina post 9-11. While stationed in Florida, Julie decided to use her piano playing experience from her father’s church by teaching piano to special needs children. Once they moved to Alaska, she expanded and also taught Little Mozart music classes, and was known as the “music lady” by her beloved students at Elmendorf AFB. All the while getting the kids involved in dance, tae-kwon-do, Chinese School, and supporting military and civilian families in the community. On top of it all, Julie earned her associates degree.
When the family moved to the D.C. metro area, Julie was overjoyed to be back on the east coast near her family. Julie continued to support Bill and the kids, and following the passing of her sister in 2010, she helped to take care of her nieces. Somehow after moving four times within the course of five years, Team Carle ended up in Bellevue, Nebraska. While not expecting it to be their forever home, they quickly fell in love with the people and the community. During Bill’s command positions with the Air Force Weather Agency and the 557th Weather Wing, Julie worked tirelessly for the Airmen and their families and made countless friends along the way. Her two sons, upon meeting their wonderful spouses, Anna (Jonathan) and Amanda (Zachary), brought five amazing grandchildren for Mi-Mi to spoil (Simon, Eric, Eloise, Bennett, and Tylere). While Julie joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the day before Tylere was born, he will grow to learn how she was the most giving and caring grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, wife, and friend through stories and pictures. She lived to love and take care of the people around her and wanted everyone to share in her love of God and family, and to know peace and salvation through Jesus Christ. When her eight-year battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis ended, she held the hands of her husband and daughter and departed peacefully on January 23, 2021.
Julie is survived by loving husband, Bill; children: Jonathan (Anna) Carle, Zachary (Amanda) Carle, and Eleanor Carle; grandchildren: Simon, Eloise, Eric, Bennett, and Tylere; mother, Sherry Johns; brothers, Joel (Amy) Johns and Justin (Cassandra) Johns; brothers-in-law, Dustin Chapman and David (Celena) Carle; sister-in-law, Grace (Sutton) Whitaker; father and mother-in-law, Edward and Pao-Chu Carle; as well as nieces, Pressley and Braelyn Chapman and many more nieces and nephews.
