Lloyd Leland Fitch was born to Lloyd Laverne Fitch and Margret Eleanor Fitch on November 26, 1948. He grew up in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. In high school, Lloyd was active in athletics, playing basketball and track as well as band. During his high school years, Lloyd also became an Eagle Scout. Lloyd attended Wayne State College and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Fraternity. He graduated with a degree in Education, emphasis in Mathematics. Lloyd went on to teach in the Omaha Public schools for over 30 years, holding positions at Nathan Hale Junior High, and Central High School.

He met the love of his life, Sherry Haffke, in 3rd grade. In 6th grade, things escalated when Lloyd threw a brick “accidentally” at Sherry and for appeasement, Lloyd took her on their first date, a movie downtown (where they had to walk to the show). Lloyd and Sherry were married, August 28, 1970 and soon after began their family, with the birth of their first child, Jenny in November of 1971. Suzy soon followed in July of 1973. Katy decided to join the family (fashionably late) in December 1979 (ok, maybe more “late” than fashionable). While Sherry raised three girls, Lloyd made sure to raise three boys. Many weekends and nights were spend teaching the girls how to swim, throw a ball, change a tire, mow a lawn, trim a tree and take care of the property at the lake.

In 1998, he became a grandpa not once, but twice, with the arrival of Jackson in June and Noah in August. In 2001, he welcomed his first granddaughter Baylee, Emma followed in 2003. Brody rounded out the family in 2007. Grandpa spent the next several years introducing the kids to the “I’m going to bite your toes” game, as well as wrestling, and the time-honored tradition of “peeing on trees”.

One of Lloyd’s favorite places was The Cabin. Many summers, evenings, and weekends were spent out at the Sunset Lodge at Buccaneer Bay. For many summers, we would joke that Dad would plant the trees, just to trim the trees, so he could burn the limbs, and then use the hose to put the fire out. Every. Single. Year. Teaching the kids to drive the Pontoon boat was a particular favorite, as well as teaching the long-honored tradition of “honking the horn”. Fishing, boating, and swimming were all a major part of all our lives, thanks to Lloyd.

The other of Lloyd’s favorite places was The Choo Choo Bar & Grill. He and Sherry would spend many a Wednesday and weekends (especially Husker Saturdays) with family and all the many friends they made over the years. Lloyd loved to bring flowers and give a rose to his girls and any other lady that looked like they needed a reason to smile.

Lloyd (or as he would like to say Rat Bastard) left this world on February 18, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Margaret Fitch; and wife, Sherry Fitch. He is survived daughters Jenny (husband Scott) Clayton, Suzy (husband-ish Kirk Lavengood), and Katy (husband Joe) Cresto. Grandchildren Noah, Baylee and Brody Clayton, and Jackson (Miranda Reising) and Emma LeDent.

Dad was a prankster (READ: Onery), a self-professed cowboy, a fierce friend, and a HUGE troublemaker. We will all miss him and his absolute love for all of us. He is with the love of his life, and we know they are both looking out for us.
