Marilyn C. (Fetrow) Bauer

Marilyn Carol Bauer passed away peacefully on Saturday October 1, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Marilyn was born on August 17, 1936 in Neligh, Nebraska to J. Dale and L. Mae (Cronk) Fetrow. She was Valedictorian of the O’Neill (NE) High School Class of 1954 and graduated from the Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha before working as a secretary at the Bemis Brothers Bag Company. Marilyn shared a great love with her husband Leland J. Bauer whom she married on September 9, 1961 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Omaha.

Marilyn was a homemaker and a volunteer for her children’s schools and St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Omaha. She was later a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Women’s Guild and Silver and Golds group. Marilyn had many passions dear to her heart, especially travel with Leland (to all 50 states and several countries), needlework, knitting (particularly with her church circle making caps for pediatric cancer patients), the Madonna School for Exceptional Children, gatherings with her Bunco group, visits with friends to Taco Bell, and socials with the Villas of Huntington Park lunch and wine groups.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Leland of Altoona, Iowa; her children, Diane (Preston) Jones of Prole, Iowa, Susan (Mike) Lyons of Altoona, Iowa, Mark (Jane) Bauer of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Lisa Brooks of Round Rock, Texas; eight grandchildren, Dylan (Catherine) Lyons, Ainsley (Travis) Vatanasombat, Ryan (Abbie) Jones, Lauren Jones, Jackson and Joshua Bauer, and Rachel and Lydia Brooks; and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Lettie Jones. Marilyn is also survived by her sister Betty (Ed) Pierson and brother Frank (Mary) Fetrow; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Donald Bauer, Edward Bauer, Arlene (Robert) Klapperich, Robert (Carolyn) Bauer, Sherry Bauer, and James (Jan) Bauer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Mae Fetrow; her husband’s parents Nicholas and Minnie Bauer; her son-in-law Charles Brooks; sisters-in-law Pauline Bauer, Lois Shirbroun, and Wanda Bauer; and brothers-in-law Duane Shirbroun and Richard Bauer.



Visitation:

Visitation with the family begins Tuesday, after 5:00 at the Pacific Street Chapel with a wake service at 7:00pm.
