Mildred Elaine Burroughs

November 20, 1937 — July 24, 2022

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Fred; her parents, Frank and Violet Jansen of Norfolk; two infant sisters; a brother, Robert “Bob” Jansen of Battle Creek; and a brother-in-law, Duane “Mike” Kruger of Norfolk.

Elaine is survived by her daughter, Stacy Niewohner and her husband Tony of Omaha; two grandsons Noah Niewohner (Emma Miller) and Drew Niewohner; great grandson, Kolter and his brother Bentley; her sister, Donna Kruger of Norfolk; cousins; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends.

Elaine was a realtor in Norfolk, NE for many years. She loved to tour new homes and she especially enjoyed helping families find just the right home for their needs. She loved her grandsons more than anything. She spent as much time them as possible, attending their baseball games, hosting family dinners, and tossing the kids whiffle balls in the backyard to help them practice.

Anyone who knew Elaine knows how much she loved to travel, and she especially enjoyed traveling with family and close friends. Fred and Elaine went on several cruises to the Caribbean and to Hawaii. One year, they took the entire family to Walt Disney World and on a Disney Cruise. Elaine loved meeting up with good friends Lyle and Joyce Scholten, in Branson, where they attended Charlie Pride and Daniel O’Donnell shows and visited for hours.

Fred and Elaine spent many New Year’s Eve’s cooking fondue, playing cards and visiting with friends. Elaine’s favorite activities included playing Dominos Mexican Train and eating ice cream. She enjoyed Mexican Food, especially Fred’s homemade enchiladas, which were a “secret” recipe, never written down , and different every time. For the past year and a half, Elaine lived at Espirit Whispering Ridge in Omaha, where she played Bingo, Kings in the Corner, and Dominos right up until her final week of life. She made several good friends at Espirit and met many amazing caregivers for whom we are so grateful.

Elaine was a Christian and a member of Zion Lutheran Church. After a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, her body is at rest and her soul is with the Lord.
