He was a devoted son, brother, and uncle.

He received his education in the Westside School District, attending Hillside Elementary, Westside Middle School, and graduating from Westside High School in 1997. He was involved in band, at all levels. He studied at Metropolitan Community College, where he received his Associates in Applied Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology in 2008 He had high hopes of eventually having a career in Engineering. However, health issues plagued him for most of his life, making career possibilities very difficult.

Nathan was very involved in Boy Scouts of America, going through the program, from Cub Scouts to and through Boy Scouts. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout (the highest achievement in scouting) in June of 1997. He enjoyed camping. Many summers were spent climbing, caving, camping, and learning of the outdoors at scout camps in the plains and mountain states. He also worked as an archery instructor for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts at Camp Wakonda and Camp Eagle in the MidAmerica Council.

He was always inquisitive and strived to learn new things every day. His scope of interest was quite broad. He was an avid gamer, and enjoyed time with friends and family. A cyclist, Nathan rode BRAN (Bike Ride Across Nebraska) twice with his father and friends.
