Preceded in death by parents Leo Ambrose Birkel, Elsie (Brochtrup); siblings Thomas (Betty Martin), Charles, Pauline (Kozisek); first wife of 36 years, M. Genevieve/Geny (Wilcox).



Survived by sister-in-law Gladys(Miratsky), brother-in-law Daniel Kozisek.



Survived by second wife of 30 years, Karen J. Sweeney. Children: Susan (Wayne) Sealy; Mary Kay, James (Nancy), Jeffrey Birkel. Step-children: Michelle (Mark) Nielson, Kati King (Francisco Serrano).



Grandchildren: Matthew (Stacey), Mark, Rocael Sealy; Lauren (David) Hood; Jonathan, Nicholas Birkel, Taylor Lehmann; Jacob, Josie King. Helane (Ryan) Palmer; Chandler, Jack, Hanna Nielson. Thomas, Ryan Catherine Serrano. Brady (Rachel) , Tyler Knudson.

Great-grandchilden: Morgan, Kiera, Paiten Sealy; Declan and Gavin Hood; Lily, Nicacio Lehmann; Samuel Knudson, Finley Palmer.
