Robert Delphis, Sr Marcotte

August 8, 1925 — August 23, 2016

Robert Delphis Marcotte, Sr., peacefully passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara W. Marcotte; daughter, Carol Marcotte Fick; parents, Lionel Joseph Marcotte and Emily Marcotte Novak. He is survived by his sister, Laurette Naylor of Mclean, Virginia; son, Robert Delphis Marcotte, Jr. of Omaha; daughters, Rev. Susan Hazen of Coquille, Oregon, Marian (Mimi) McClelland of Owings Mills, Maryland, Barbara Marcotte Woodling of Sacramento, California; eight grandchildren, Natalie Hadjiloukas, Alexander Hadjiloukas, Katerina Marcotte, Marielle (Mimi) Marcotte, Robert D. Marcotte, III (Trey) Marcotte, Sarah Marcotte, John (Jack) Woodling, and Kristina Woodling.

Robert (Bob) was born in Omaha on August 8, 1925, son of Emily and Lionel Marcotte. He was a lifelong resident and retired insurance executive with the Marcotte Companies. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School, graduated from Creighton Prep High School and later graduated with honors from Georgetown University. Following Creighton University Law School, he began a distinguished career with his father and Marcotte Insurance which lasted over 50 years. He was an award winning executive as General Agent for Mutual of Omaha and President of Marcotte Insurance Agency.

Bob served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a flight instructor and taught aerial gunnery.

He was dearly loved and admired by his friends and family and will be greatly missed. Bob had an insatiable curiosity and pursued many interests beyond his profession. He was a pilot, skilled waterfowl hunter and conservationist, fisherman, historian, aviation and firearms expert, avid reader, champion of conservative ideals, food and wine aficionado and an authentic world traveler and adventurer.

He felt his greatest contribution in life was his tireless commitment and support to numerous wildlife and waterfowl conservation organizations, particularly for Ducks Unlimited. He was an ardent supporter of DU for over 60 years, serving as President 1980-1981. His successful efforts were fueled by the desire to provide the opportunity for waterfowl experiences for future generations.

He was a superb story teller (truth and otherwise) and had a delightful and sometimes mischievous sense of humor. He loved a good joke and even more the resulting smiles on his friends and family.
