He attended Mason Elementary School. His home parish, St. Ann's, did not have a grade school. but he was honored to be an Altar Server there. Attending Central High School he graduated in 1942.

He attended Creighton University for a semester and was drafted into the service of his country. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II for three years and returned to Omaha and Creighton University to graduate in 1950

The family and their grocery store were important to Sam and he worked in the business for 15 years. In 1964 he went to work for Omaha Neon Sign Company, a division of Nebraska Neon, as general manager. In 1966 he purchased the company. He was very proud of the growth of this company and was still going to the office into his nineties. Sam had a very strong work ethic and saw his employees as part of his extended family.

The community was an important part of his life and in 2015, Sam, was honored by the Santa Lucia organization as he received the distinction of becoming the Honorary President of Santa Lucia.

The year 2000 was a special year for Sam as he began his 20-year marriage to Lynn Dinsdale on November 10.

Playing golf was a passion for Sam, especially with his Happy Hollow Hangover League on Sunday mornings. His dedication to Creighton was very evident by his support of the Creighton University Basketball team. He held his season tickets for over 60 years. Nebraska football was another love of his.

He was a proud supporter of all his children and grandchildren, their activities and their sport accomplishments.

As a man of great Faith, he was a kind and loving man who touched many people with his generous spirit and his legacy will live on forever.
