Suzanne Pickard

March 24, 1938 — July 31, 2022

Suzanne, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, passed peacefully in her sleep July 31, 2022 at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, George Pickard (Lincoln NE), and her parents Alice and Alan Richardson (Bradenton FL).

She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Steve (Ruth) Pickard – Greensboro Bend VT, Dennis (Rachel) Pickard – Liberty MO, Renee (John) Osterhoudt – Scottsdale AZ, Sheri (Shawn) Johnson – Omaha NE, and six grandchildren, Joe Duncan & Alayna Pickard – Liberty MO, Nicole & Andrew Osterhoudt – Scottsdale AZ, Zack Johnson – Portland OR & Alex Johnson – Omaha NE, as well as Suzanne’s sister, Sally (Richardson) Smith – Citrus Springs FL.

Suzanne was born in Detroit, Michigan, March 24, 1938. She was an amazing athlete from her early years including Ballet, Tap, Ice and Roller Figure Skating, but found her calling (and her future husband!) with Roller Speed Skating. She later became the 1958 National Champion in Speed Skating and a member of the World Team, competing in Auckland, New Zealand. After the birth of their four children, George’s position with the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association (RSROA) relocated the family to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1970.

For over 25 years, Suzanne worked as a Graphic Designer for Lancaster House Printing in Lincoln NE. She continued to pursue her love of sports while fulfilling her passion for creativity with everything from competitive Powerlifting, Aerobics, Belly Dancing, Fine Art, Stain Glass Art, Sewing, Gardening and of course Roller Skating with her Grandchildren. She was the number one fan of her grandchildren and enjoyed cheering them on at the activities in which they participated.

She especially loved traveling with her family, and her extended Roller Skating family, nationally and internationally through George’s positions with USA Roller Sports and the Federation International Roller Sports (FIRS). She cherished the close friendships she and George made around the world.

Suzanne lived a unique and extraordinary life filled with love, laughter and amazing life adventures. A special thank you to those that helped make her journey through life incredible.
