Wayne Dale Shearer

August 31, 1943 — May 31, 2023

Wayne Dale Shearer, 79, of Omaha/Papillion, passed away on May 31 after a long battle with

cancer.

Wayne was born on August 31, 1943 to Earl and Clara Shearer in Mason City, Iowa. Wayne

participated on the Mohawk swim team, graduated in 1961 and remained a part of his

classmates and alumni group for the rest of his life. He was active in motorcycle racing and drag

racing in Iowa and Minnesota. It was during this time that he fell in love with Donna Boyd. They

married in 1965 and started a family soon after with the birth of their son, Robby in 1967;

daughter, Lisa in 1969; daughter, Libby Jo (deceased); and final daughter, Robin in 1972.

Professionally, Wayne kept his passion for cars and motorcycles as his career. He alternated

managing and owning salvage yards and enjoyed helping others build, rebuild, and repair their

vehicles. From Mason City, the family moved to Charles City, then to Chariton where Wayne

bought his own 18 acre salvage yard. The family enjoyed the extra space to also pursue

hunting and gardening, which are traits his children and grandchildren love to this day. He also

got the opportunity to play a lot of golf, something he loved to do with his wife and kids. He

made many friends here and was active with the Jaycees, always playing Frankenstein at their

haunted house!

Wayne sold the business and moved to Muscatine in 1981, where he and his family will say they

spent the best years of their lives and created many forever friends. You could always find the

neighborhood crew playing cards, games, volleyball, charades, grilling out, having a drink and

so much more! Many summer camping and canoeing memories have been relished over the

years. Sad to leave their friends, Wayne, Donna and Robin moved to Geneva, NE for work.

Donna passed away in 2013, and Wayne had moved to Crete where he worked at the

Alpo/Friskies Corporation factory until his retirement.

Wayne eventually moved to The Wellington in Papillion, where he met many new friends and

reignited his passion for playing cards, dice, and spending time with friends. He was a frequent

and enthusiastic attendee of his childrens’, grandchildrens’, and even great-grandchildrens’

activities. If he couldn’t be there in person, he was thankful for live feeds and streaming even up

to his last days in hospice.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Clara Shearer, wife Donna, and daughter

Libby Jo. He is survived by his children–Robby Shearer, Cedar Rapids Iowa, Lisa Rands,

Omaha, Nebraska; Robin Hollinger, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren and 12

great-grandchildren. A family gathering will be arranged at a later date; and Wayne’s ashes will

be scattered at his requested location next summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to family for Wayne’s final resting. Thank you for a

lifetime of love and support for this amazing man! His memories will live on
