Preceded in death by parents Wencil & Virginia Suchy. Survived by husband Mike Smith and lots of cousins and friends. Carol attended Walnut Hill Elementary, Benson High and UNO. She graduated with an English BA and BFA in studio art. After graduating she was a Douglas County social worker where she worked with problem families and later Day Care and Foster Care Licensing where Boys Town was one of her responsibilities. She began volunteering at Omaha Community Playhouse working on scenery and props for productions and later working there full time. She toured 2 years with the Nebraska Theatre Caravan as follow-spot operator and as stage manager. Then in 1985 she moved to NYC and enrolled in Lester Polakov’s New York Studio and Forum of Stage Design to become a Scenic Artist. In the years that followed she worked on the background set for many movies, Broadway plays and TV shows. Her sets appear in many Woody Allen movies, Saturday Night Live shows, Dr. OZ, Rosie O’Donnell Show and many other productions. Her last job before retiring was “Orange is the New Black”. She moved back to Omaha in 2014. After a long bout with health issues she bounced back and reconnected in 2017 with her college sweetheart, Mike Smith from the early UNO days. They had a wonderful, magical wedding at the Durham Museum. They traveled extensively and went on many camping trips, always happy to come home again to their wonderful house in the Keystone neighborhood. The happiest days of her life were spent with Mike, it was such a blessing that they found each other again. Carol will be missed greatly by her husband, family, friends and two beloved cats.
