Mimi (Mary Patricia) Rogers-Farkas died peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, in Rockwall, Texas, at age 61 after fighting a difficult battle with ALS. Mimi lit up every room with her infectious smile and optimism. She loved the arts, biking, swimming, yoga, and writing. She is survived by her husband, Scott Farkas, and her children: Forrest Rogers-Marcovitz, Mordechai Marcovitz, Cleo Rogers, Isaac Rogers, and Jordan Farkas. Mimi also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren in Israel.
Mimi grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, with parents Franklin Rogers and Wilma Coenen and siblings Barbra O’Connor, Michael Rogers, Joseph Rogers, and John Rogers. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her brother, Michael.
Mimi was married to Aharon (Michael) Marcovitz from 1982 until 2002. Mimi married Scott Farkas on April 3rd, 2004. Mimi was a proud member of the Jewish community after her conversion at Temple Israel in 1997.
Mimi attended Duchesne Academy Of The Sacred Heart for High School, received a B.A. of Elementary Education at Western Colorado University, and earned a PhD in Sociology at Wayne State University in Detroit. After university, she was a college professor at Metro Community College and Creighton University, both in Omaha.
Over many decades, she taught in K-12 classrooms in Michigan, Nebraska, and Texas. A dedicated small business owner, Mimi operated Diet Center of Omaha for two years and co-managed Valpak of Omaha & Lincoln with her husband Scott for 13 years.
Graveside Service will be on Tuesday, October 15, 10 a.m., at Temple Israel Cemetery, 6400 North 42nd Street.
Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, October 15, 11:30 a.m., at Temple Israel, 13111 Sterling Ridge Drive,. For those unable to join us in person for the service, you may attend virtually via Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89933616584#success).
