Thomas W. Conn, 79, died Monday, January 27, 2025.
Tom was born in Omaha on August 12, 1945. He was the third son of Mary Jane (nee Carey) and Donald Conn. There was a large gap between him and his four younger siblings. This might be why Tom loved babies so much. He always got a twinkle in his eye if he was ever around a little kid.
Tom attended Sacred Heart Grade School and was one of the favorites of the nuns. He started working at the age of 14 at a few grocery stores and was even a car hop at a drive-in. He saved his money so he could purchase his first hi-fi. He loved listening to all types of music.
After Tom finished at Sacred Heart Grade School, the family moved to the Cathedral neighborhood and attended 4 years of Cathedral High. He attended many dances and continued working until he joined the Air Force. He followed in his brother Terry’s footsteps to become a medic. After training, he was stationed to Minot, North Dakota. Next, he was sent for 2 years to southern Spain where he ran the clinic on the base.
Tom married Sharon Cosentino, of Omaha, and their son, Ryan, was born in 1979 and son, Corey was born in 1983. They enjoyed spending time together as a family, especially outdoor activities. After military service, he started working at Union Pacific. He started in the yards and continued studying and getting certifications. He worked his way up and ended his 37 year career in the Marketing and Accounting Departments. He had a passion for photography and took photography classes at UNO.
In 1989 Tom met Carlotta (Carly) Kugel at a dance. During a ladies choice song, Carly asked Tom to dance and they began dating the next week. They continued to dance over the years and Tom was called the Dance Hall King. They were united in marriage on November 30, 1990 in Las Vegas at Wee Kirk of the Heather Chapel. Tom enjoyed helping Carly in her career as a librarian, cooking supper when she was busy and helping put up bulletin boards at the school. They both enjoyed spending time with coworkers. After retirement, Tom and Carly enjoyed traveling. They went on numerous driving trips, went on a cruise and even toured Europe. Their favorite activity was spending time with family and being with their grandkids and great-grandkids.
